ATTENTION SOUTH TAMPA RESIDENTS!

ON SAT., FEB. 26 & SUN. FEB. 27, 2022 the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association will once again be asking for your patience during the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend. Please know the Association is aware for some, the Race Weekend Events will be an inconvenience. We’ve done our best to minimize the inconvenience and hope you will view the event as an opportunity to share the beauty of your neighborhood with the participants. Please be patient and know the Tampa Police Dept. will open the impacted streets just as soon as is possible.

BAYSHORE BLVD. RESIDENTS

SAT., FEB. 26 & SUN., FEB. 27
Beginning at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, Feb. 26 and 5 a.m. on Sunday morning Feb. 27, Bayshore Blvd. (northbound & southbound) will be closed from Gandy Blvd. to the Platt Street Bridge and will remain closed both mornings until approximately 11 a.m.

While some homes that sit directly on Bayshore Blvd. have back exits and/or driveways that connect with side streets, the Association realizes many do not. If you MUST leave your home during the Road Closure, please approach a Tampa Police Department Officer for assistance for your safety and the safety of the runners.

SOUTH BAYSHORE BLVD. RESIDENTS

SAT., FEB. 26
Neighborhoods south of Gandy Blvd. WILL NOT be impacted. However, because the 15K route includes two blocks of Gandy Blvd., there will be an impact for those that live or work on Gandy, between Bayshore and South Zion Streets. These folks will be impacted for approximately one hour (7– 8 a.m.)

If you need to leave your home during the road closure (7– 8 a.m.), prior to 6:45 a.m., please consider moving your vehicle across Gandy Blvd. and onto Elberon or South Quincy. Elberon and South Quincy will both provide access to Ballast Point Blvd. and MacDill Avenue. If moving your vehicle prior to the road closure isn’t possible, first and foremost, please approach a Tampa Police Dept. Officer for assistance in leaving your homes. Please do not attempt to leave on your own … you will be sharing the roads with the 15K participants.

HARBOUR ISLAND RESIDENTS

SAT., FEB. 26
The 15K & 5K will Start at Brorein & Franklin Streets. Beginning at 4 a.m. and until approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 26, traffic coming to and from Harbour Island will be impacted. Franklin Street, Florida Avenue, Morgan Street and Jefferson Street will be closed between Old Water Street and Whiting Street; Channelside will be closed west of Morgan Street.

Beneficial Drive however, will remain open and will provide access both to and from Harbour Island. Once off of the Island, Meridian will provide access to Kennedy Blvd. and will bypass the other road closures.

DAVIS ISLANDS RESIDENTS

ON SUN., FEB. 27
The following neighborhoods will be impacted:

ZONE #1: For residents residing east of Davis/East Davis Blvd., please make your way to Columbia Dr. Columbia will provide access to Tampa General Hospital and once Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants are on the Island via the Plant Ave. Bridge (approx. 6:20 a.m.), the Plant Ave. Bridge will open and provide egress from the Island.

ZONE #2: For residents residing west of East Davis Blvd. between West Davis Blvd. and East Davis Blvd. and north of canal, please make your way to Danube Ave. At Danube and Bosphorus, you’ll be directed on Bosphorus to East Davis Blvd. Once the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants are clear of Bosphorus on East Davis Blvd. (approx. 6:30 a.m.), traffic will flow off the Island via northbound lanes of East Davis/Davis Blvd.

ZONE #3: For residents residing west and northwest of South Davis Blvd. between West Davis Blvd. and south of the canal, you’ll be able to access the northbound lanes of West Davis via Martinique Ave., Riviera Dr. and Marmora Ave. At West Davis and Danube, you’ll be directed to Bosphorus. Once the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants are clear of Bosphorus on East Davis Blvd. (approx. 6:30 a.m.), traffic will flow off the Island via northbound lanes of East Davis/Davis Blvd. Please be aware the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants will be running north in the southbound lanes of West Davis Blvd. You will be sharing West Davis with the participants.

ZONE #4: For residents living west of West Davis Blvd. and south of the canal, please make your way to Martinique Ave. Once Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants are north of Martinique on southbound lanes of West Davis (approx. 7 a.m.), you’ll be able to circle behind the participants and onto the northbound lanes of West Davis Blvd. At West Davis and Danube, you’ll be directed to Bosphorus and East Davis Blvd. where traffic will flow off the Island via northbound lanes of East Davis/Davis Blvd. Please be aware the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants will be running north in the southbound lanes of West Davis Blvd. You will be sharing West Davis with the participants.

ZONE #5: For residents living west of West Davis Blvd. and north of the canal, please make your way to Blanca Ave. Once Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants are north of Blanca on southbound lanes of West Davis (approx. 7:20 a.m.), you’ll be able to circle behind the participants and onto the northbound lanes of West Davis Blvd. At West Davis and Danube, you’ll be directed to Bosphorus and East Davis Blvd. where traffic will flow off the Island via northbound lanes of Davis/East Davis Blvd. Please be aware the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants will be running north in the southbound lanes of West Davis Blvd. You will be sharing West Davis with the participants.

ZONE #6: Residents living northwest of Davis Blvd. and north of The Mirasol Apartments will be impacted the most. As in previous years, the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants will exit Davis Islands via the southbound lanes of Davis Blvd., the Hyde Park Ave. Bridge and the Bayshore Blvd. Ramp that merges onto the Hyde Park Ave. Bridge. Once the Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon participants have cleared the north end of Adalia Ave. (approx. 7:50 a.m.), you will be able to access Davis and the Plant Ave. Bridge. If you need to leave your home earlier than 7:50 a.m., please consider parking your car on Columbia Dr. overnight or prior to 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.
